BC Awards
BC
Branch Member of the Year
The Award is presented to a member of the B.C.
Branch who has made a significant contribution
to the B.C. Branch and/or the Institute nationally
over the previous several years, and/or to professional
standards in environmental health through additional
means such as health professional organizations
other than the Institute, i.e. health advocacy
groups, publications and employment. The award
can be issued each year at the Annual General
meeting and consists of a trophy and a shield.
The shield contains the names of all recipients
and may be retained by the current recipient for
one year; the trophy remains the property of the
recipient.
BC
Branch Honorary Members
The Award is presented to any individual who has
performed or rendered some outstanding service
to public health and to society.
Bob
Herbison Award
The Award originated as a plaque in 1986. After
a fund-raising campaign and with the blessing
of Bob and his wife Nan, the first financial award
was presented in 1999 along with the plaque. The
award is presented to any student who has completed
level 5 or 6 of BCIT's Environmental Health Program.
The plaque is inscribed as follows: "BOB HERBISON
AWARD ~ Presented to a second year student member
of the CIPHI BC Branch who, in the opinion of
the Faculty of Environmental Health and approved
by the BC Branch Executive, will demonstrate the
ability to deal effectively with a variety of
field situations with the high standard and characteristics
as exhibited by Bob Herbison such as maturity
of attitude, involvement and participation in
class activities, demonstrated leadership ability,
integrity, interpersonal skills and effective
communication with peers and faculty at BCIT."
CIPHI
BC Branch Bursary to a First Year Student at BCIT
The Award is based on the following criteria:
- Proven financial need as determined by BCIT
Financial Aids and Awards.
- Enrollment in BCIT's Environmental Health
program, irrespective of which tract or year
they belong to (except level 8 students, who
are ineligible).
- Recipients do not have to be members of the
Institute.

McNab Bursary
The Award is based on the following criteria:
- Proven financial need as determined by BCIT
Financial Aids and Awards.
- Enrollment in BCIT's Environmental Health
program, irrespective of which tract or year
they belong to (except level 8 students, who
are ineligible).
- Recipients do not have to be members of the
Institute.
Environmental
Health Achievement Award
The Award is presented to a student who has completed
Term 6 of the Environmental Health Program at
BCIT, and who displays good communication and
interpersonal skills, maturity, empathy and leadership
ability. Students and faculty participate in the
selection of the recipient. The recipient receives
a medallion and a cash award.
There is no permanent source of funding for this
award, so the amount of the award varies each
year.
John
A. Stringer Memorial Award
The Award is based on the following criteria:
- Candidate must be a graduating student, completing
levels 7 or 8 of BCIT's Environmental Health program.
- The recipient can belong to any branch of
the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
- Candidates will be of sound character with
leadership potential as identified by the faculty
of BCIT in consultation with the executive of
the BC Branch of the Canadian Institute of Public
Health Inspectors.
White
Spot Award (no longer active)
The Award was granted to a student gaining the
title of "Most Promising Public Health Inspector".
The criteria established by White Spot Limited
for determining the award winner were based on
the candidates' examination marks with emphasis
on food and quality control, the mark given to
a report on Food Processing, financial need and
lastly, the candidate who showed the most promise
as a field inspector.
National
Awards (recipients from BC)
25-year
CIPHI Member Awards
A 25-year membership pin was presented to those
BC Branch members recognized for 25 years or more
of membership in CIPHI.
50-year
CIPHI Member Awards
The National Executive Council (NEC) of CIPHI
created a recognition award to honor members with
50 years or more of membership in CIPHI.
Alex
Cross Award
The Award is presented to a member for displaying
the highest standards of professional practice
during the past year. Criteria include: Significant
contribution to the advancement of association,
the field of environmental health and/or the community.
- Promotion of the professional standards of
the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
- Exemplary leadership in dealing with a critical
issue affecting environmental health or public
health.
Alexander
Officer Award
The Award is presented to an organization or agency
for outstanding and meritorious achievements in
the field of public or environmental health.
- Achievement of meritorious and outstanding
performance for either a specific project or
over a prescribed period of time.
- Innovation and excellence in program development
and/or management.
- Leadership and development of community participation
in environmental health programs.
- Leadership and innovation in planning, prioritization
and management of environmental health concerns
using risk management evaluations, such as prioritization
of program activities with limited manpower
and resources.
CIPHI
Honorary Members
The Award is presented to a person who is not
eligible for regular membership in the Canadian
Institute of Public Health Inspectors, for outstanding
support, contribution or service to the association
or Public Health Inspectors in Canada in general.
CIPHI
Life Members
The Award is presented to a member of the Canadian
Institute of Public Health Inspectors, for outstanding
service to his or her profession and/or to his
community over an extended period of time.
EHR
Award
The Award is presented to a member, non-member,
individual or organization for excellence in presenting
an environmental health issue or topic to the
public.
- Leadership in effective utilization of communication
to bring an issue of environmental health or
public health significance to public attention
and consideration.
- Published works dealing with an issue of public
health or public health significance.
- Innovative use of communication tools to enhance
the association or the field of environmental
health.
President's
Award
The Award is presented to a former member of the
National Executive Council who has demonstrated
outstanding service and commitment to the Canadian
Institute of Public Health Inspectors while in
office.
